Baumgartner höhe

After Germany incorporated Austria in March 1938, the Nazis immediately began to apply their racial laws on austrian people. At Baumgartner höhe psychiatric hospital in Vienna, euthanasia was performed on patients with physical and mental disabilities. However, the hospital never became an official euthanasia institution.

Current status: Preserved with museum (2008).

Address: Baumgartner höhe 2, 1140 Wien.

Get there: Bus.

My comment:

The Nazis took over part of the hospital and that part houses the museum. The museum has sparse opening hours and the entire exhibition is in German.

Follow up in books: Friedlander, Henry: The Origins of Nazi Genocide – From euthanasia to the final solution (1995).
