Vienna - Saurer Werke

In an industrial area in southeast Vienna, between October 1944 and May 1945, there was a satellite camp to Mauthausen. The camp was called Saurer Werke and the prisoners were forced to work on the production of tank engines.

Current status: Demolished with monument (2008).

Location: 48°10'33.76" N 16°26'22.12" E

Get there: Car.

My comment:

A survey of all satellite camps like this would take an eternity. They are not always easy to find and few people know about them. No specific books are available in English. The information available is sometimes fragmentary and limited to research circles. Nevertheless, these camps also have their given place in the history of the Nazi concentration camps.

Follow up in books: Kogon, Eugen: The Theory and Practice of Hell: The German Concentration Camps and the System Behind Them (2006).
