In October 1933, the Gestapo in Munich established its headquarters at the Wittelsbacher Palace on Brienner Strasse. in 1934, a prison was also established in the Palace. It was from here that Himmler and Heydrich began their conquest of the German police. It was also here that siblings Hans and Sophie Scholl were taken to interrogation after they were revealed by spreading antinazist flyers at the University of Munich in 1942. Headquarters were badly damaged during a bombing in 1944 and demolished after the war.
