Kristiansand SIPO

Between 1940 and January 1942, German SIPO (Security Police) and Gestapo had their headquarters at Östra Strandgatan 5 in central Kristiansand. In January 1942, the Germans moved headquarters to Kristiansand’s State Archive just outside the city center.

Current status: Preserved (2017).

Address: Ă–stra Strandgatan 5, 4610 Kristiansand.

Get there: Walk from central Kristiansand.

My comment:

In 2017, a law firm was based on the premises, and there was no memorial tablet or any other information about its Gestapo history. An interesting detail are the windows on ground level. During the war, there were prison cells in the building’s basement and if you take a closer look you can see that the windows grilles are still there. The cells are probably not there anymore, it seemed more like the basement was being used as storage.
