Bromberg Gestapo HQ

At Jozefa Poniatowskio in Bromberg (polish Bydgoszcz), Gestapo had its local headquarters. Head of the Bromberg Gestapo between 1939 and 1944 was Obersturmbannführer, Karl-Heinz Rux. Bromberg’s Gestapo was very much involved in the murders committed against Poles in the district of Danzig-Western Prussia. Between 1945 and 1955 the house was used by the Polish Communist Police.

Current status: Demolished with monument (2021).

Location: 53°07' 46.43" N 18°01' 23.51" E

Get there: Car.

My comment:

Nowadays there is a local police office in the building and probably it’s a building erected sometime after the Second World War. On the fence outside the building there are memorials in honor of those who fell victim to both Nazis and Communists.

Follow up in books: Höhne, Heinz: The Order of the Death’s Head: The story of Hitler’s SS (1969).
