Posen Gestapo HQ

It was at this location Posen Gestapo had its headquarters between 1939 and 1944. Head of the Gestapo in Posen was first, SS-Sturmbannführer Helmuth Bischoff, and from November 1941, SS-Obersturmbannführer Karl Stossberg. It was the Gestapo who controlled Fort VII in Posen and was thus ultimately responsible for the atrocities that took place in the fort, including the killing of physically and mentally handicapped people who were killed in a gas chamber at the fort.
